Control and control-based design of computing systems and networks

Exploit the systems and control theory to manage and/or design hardware and software components that improve the operation of computing systems and networks, including embedded and wireless devices, to yield more efficient and reliable behaviour in dynamic environments like cloud and IoT ones, and also in the face of adverse environmental conditions. Object-oriented modelling, simulation and control

Describe cyber-physical multi-physics systems in a unitary mathematical framework, integrating equation- and algorithm-based modelling as well as modulating and logic control, to provide modern (e.g., BIM-based) engineering, operation and maintenance processes and environments with reliable, flexible and scalabledesign and decision aids. Automatic tuning of industrial controls

Design, assess and realise techniques and tools to automatically synthesise both modulating controllers, mostly but not exclusively of PID type, and control structures based on them, also exploiting the gathered information for process diagnostics and proactive maintenance. [more]

Event-based control

Address the problem of computing control actions only when needed, so as to reduce network load and actuator wear, from a mostly industrial viewpoint, not neglecting however methodological aspects, to provide methods and solutions, both software and hardware, for effective and reliable systems, also keeping an eye on the wireless ones that are gaining importance in the Industry 4.0 context. Control education methods and tools

Devise and offer activities, materials and supporting tools for an effective teaching of ths system and control theory and engineering, mostly at the university level but not neglecting the needs of continuing education, also fostering and aiding the more and more necessary convergence of the control and the computer engineering communities.
